The Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam invites applications for
PhD students
in the newly established Junior Research Group of Dr André Scheffel. The research in the group aims to elucidate the genetic program and molecular principles underlying the formation of the intricately-shaped inorganic calcium carbonate structures, termed coccoliths, which cover the cells of a group of unicellular algae known as coccolithophores. Projects will focus on the model organism Emiliania huxleyi and involve a broad spectrum of methods in biochemistry (protein isolation, identification, and characterization), molecular and cell biology (e.g. genetic transformation of algae, organelle isolation).
The applicants are expected to have a Master degree in chemistry, biology, biotechnology, or biochemistry with outstanding grades, a solid background in molecular biology or biochemistry, a genuine interest in research, and experimental enthusiasm. Proficient English is mandatory.
For further information please contact Dr Scheffel: Scheffel@mpimp-golm.mpg.de
Interested candidates should submit a motivation letter, curriculum vitae, copies of diploma and grades, and the names of two referees to:
