The German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke (DIfE) is a member of the Leibniz Association. The institute’s mission is to conduct experimental and clinical research in the field of nutrition and health, with the aim of understanding the molecular basis of nutrition-dependent diseases, and of developing new strategies for treatment and prevention.
We offer excellent technical equipment and a productive working environment and expect interested and committed candidates.
The Junior Research Group of Neurocircuit Development and Function (NDF) invites applications for 1 Master Thesis Position (m/f/d).
Topic:
Analysis of developmental timelines and neurochemical identity in brain regions involved in metabolism and food intake behaviors.
Background:
The regulation of food intake and metabolism is predominantly controlled by the brain. Extensive studies have shown that a region of the brain called the hypothalamus is critical for maintaining a balance of energy intake and energy expenditure. In recent years, regions outside the hypothalamus have been shown to also modulate metabolic function. Through an understanding of the complex neuroanatomy and developmental trajectories of key neuronal populations, we can begin to understand periods of vulnerability due to, for example, maternal overnutrition. This Master thesis will involve an in-depth study of key neuronal populations, their development, neuroanatomical location and neurochemical identity.
