Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor within single-particle cryo-electron microscopy 895083
Applications are invited for a position as Assistant Professor (tenure track) or as Associate Professor at the Interdisciplinary
Nanoscience Center, Aarhus University, Denmark (www.inano.au.dk). The intended start date for this appointment is 1 September 2017.
The position is available in the field of single-particle cryo-electron microscopy studies of biological macromolecules.
The successful candidate has a strong record and expertise in the application and critical validation of single-particle cryo-EM
data and contemporary methods ranging from sample preparation and presentation to data acquisition and processing as well as structure determination and validation.
Aarhus University has a fully operational Titan-Krios EM facility with a Gatan K2 detector in final installation by March 2017.
The facility is supported by scientific and engineering staff, and besides own research the successful candidate is expected to
engage in local collaborations and to take part in further development of a thriving research community with EM in structural
biology and molecular cell biology at Aarhus University.
The ideal candidates possess a track record of scientific research within the above-mentioned fields at a high international
level documented through articles in peer reviewed international journals. The candidate's research plan must outline research
visions and topics, and it must complement other activities at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center.
Clear evidence of independent research activities and success in obtaining research funding are essential. The candidate is
expected to build an independent research group and conduct an active program of internationally recognized research.
The successful candidate must be able to teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in the general fields of biophysics and biochemistry, and specifically electron microscopy. A non-Danish candidate is expected to be able to teach in Danish on undergraduate courses within a 3-5 year timeframe.
Further expectations for the two levels of appointment are:
Assistant Professor: Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellent research and teaching. Extensive postdoctoral training or similar is expected (see below for tenure-track program)
Associate Professor: Candidates must have an excellent record of independent research accomplishments, scholarly achievement, teaching experience, an established record of external funding is essential, as well as concomitant strong evidence of emerging leadership in their field.

Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish
Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future
research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any).

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
Tenure Track Program at Aarhus University Aarhus University offers talented scientists an attractive career
perspective via the Tenure Track Program. Highly qualified candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors for a period of 6
years with the prospect of a performance-based advancement to a tenured position as Associate Professor. As part of the Aarhus
University Tenure Track Program, the University carries out a mid-term evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track
candidate, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. If the final review is positive, the candidate will
be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at Aarhus University.
