The Department of Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry (ACES) is one of the biggest departments at the Faculty of Science. The department is divided into five units with more than 220 researchers, teachers, doctoral students and technical/administrative staff. Research and teaching focuses on Contaminant Chemistry, Exposure & Effects, Atmospheric Science, Biogeochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. The Exposure & Effect Unit focuses on improving our understanding of exposure to chemicals of emerging concern and their effects on living organisms. Our studies integrate experiments, field monitoring and modeling approaches. We also develop novel approaches to facilitate the use of scientific data in regulatory risk assessment and risk management.
At Stockholm University, successful marine research and education has been conducted for over five decades. World leading research about the Baltic Sea, as well as high-level science about other marine areas such as the tropical seas and the artic regions, originates from Stockholm University. Stockholm University Baltic Sea Centre‘s mission is to strengthen and illuminate this significant marine activity that involves over ten different Departments at the University.
Ecotoxicology specializing in regulatory decision-making.
Studies of how environmental exposure and effect data are used in chemicals risk assessment and science-based development of regulatory decision-making.
Research with some teaching and supervision. The work will be carried out at 20 % at Baltic Sea Centre, Stockholm University.
In order to qualify for the position of assistant professor, the applicant must have received a doctoral degree or equivalent qualifications. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a doctoral degree or attained equivalent qualifications no more than seven years prior to the expiry of the application period.
All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the ability to collaborate and the general ability and suitability to perform one‘s duties.
In the appointment process, specific attention will be given to research skills. Thereafter attention will be given to if the planned research is relevant for the Baltic Sea. Some attention will be given to teaching skills. The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the subject area of the position.
An assistant professor is employed until further notice, but no longer than four years. The contract may be extended to a maximum of six years under special circumstances, such as due to sick leave or parental leave.
An assistant professor may, on application, be promoted to a permanent position as associate professor. Specific criteria for promotion from assistant professor to associate professor have been adopted by the Faculty of Science and can be found at www.science.su.se. An application for promotion to associate professor should be submitted to the faculty at least nine months before the appointment as assistant professor expires.
Female applicants are particularly welcome, as most teachers at the department are men.
