Beside carbon dioxide, methane is a prominent greenhouse gas. However, the contribution of natural methane sources to the global methane increase is not clear yet. In our working group, we address the methane distribution and oxidation in different arctic locations.
In this master thesis, we want to address the composition and isotopic signal of gas extracted from ice cores from the Lena Delta, Russia. Concentrations of methane, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and NOx shall be determined and related to other environmental parameters. To determine the origin and oxidation rate of the methane the C12/C13 shall also be measured.
