In 2020, the Munch Museum will move to its new building at Bjorvika in Oslo’s harbour area. The exhibition space
will be five times larger than in the current museum building, and the museum’s scope and possibilities with regard to
conservation, research and dissemination of Edvard Munch’s art will be greatly expanded.
The Munch Museum houses a large part of Edvard Munch’s collected artworks, giving us a unique position both in a Nordic and international
context. In addition to Munch’s art, we also administer the Rolf E. Stenersen Collection. The museum collaborates with art institutions all
over the world, and the exhibition programme spans over a wide range of projects presenting Munch, Modernism and contemporary art.
We are looking to hire someone with expertise in the field of contemporary art, preferably with a PhD or an equivalent level of education.
The main focus of the job will entail the museum’s contemporary art programme. We have a professional international working community that
we would like to develop further by hiring a candidate with a broad experience of curating, research and collection management.
Curating exhibitions or other art projects, mainly focusing on the museum’s contemporary art programme. This includes contributing to and editing relevant publications and other types of dissemination, as well as taking part in the museum’s other in-house and external exhibition projects.
Conducting research and keeping up-to-date with developments within the field of contemporary art. Writing articles for relevant publications and attending conferences.
Assisting in the museum’s work within art mediation to the public and media.
Responsibility for the works of contemporary art in the museum’s collection, such as acquisitions and donations.
Processing and answering inquiries.
Graduate level education within art history or other relevant fields of study.
Special expertise within contemporary art.
Experience of working in art museums or other art institutions.
Curatorial experience, particularly within contemporary art.
Experience of research and of publishing articles on contemporary art is desired.
Desired personal qualities
Independent, enterprising, responsible and a high level of personal and professional integrity.
Structured and effective approach to projects.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Good cooperation skills, ability to inspire confidence.
Good communication skills in Norwegian and English.
We can offer
Exciting professional assignments in a museum undergoing substantial development.
Challenges in a busy, dedicated and varied professional community.
The City of Oslo’s favourable pension system.
Professional and personal development.
Only candidates applying via WebCruiter will be considered for the position. Please note that candidates may be
published on a public list of applicants even though they have requested anonymity, in which case they will be notified in advance.
