technologies and solutions in national and international projects, participating in a high number of funded research activities.
For research on new solutions in the area of Big Data analytics and Machine Learning for scalable applications, we offer a vacant scientific position in a national
project as Deep Learning Expert / Machine Learning Expert (m/f/d) (reference number: HLRS_02_2019).
As a member of a project team, you elaborate the applicability of Deep Learning / Machine Learning in combination with Data Analytics to real-world (industrial) use cases.
Candidates need to have:
A university degree, ideally in the area of computer sciences, data sciences or mathematics
A strong focus on proactivity, creativity, positive solutions and continuous improvement
Good understanding in machine learning or data mining techniques (such as k-means clustering, decision trees or outlier detection and regression)
Good mathematical or statistical skills
Programming experience in at least one high-level programming language such as Java, Python or Scala
Ideal candidates additionally have:
Experience with frameworks like TensorFlow, Theano or Torch
Hands-on experience with high-level APIs such as Keras or pyTorch
Understanding of the Apache Hadoop ecosystem (e. g. Hive, Pig, or Spark)
Good knowledge in using relational and NoSQL databases like MySQL, MongoDB or Elasticsearch
Familiarity with data visualization techniques and software (such as Tableau)
A pleasant working atmosphere in a highly motivated team
Training and courses to develop and improve personal skills
A wide range of sports activities offered by the University of Stuttgart

The contract is restricted according to the German law (WissZeitVG), although HLRS typically advocates for a contract extension. The salary is determined by the regulations for public servants, specifically TV-L.
The possibility to work on a PhD thesis in this position is given.
