The SFB/TRR 225 has recently received funding for the first period starting January 2018. Our project focuses on pre-endothelialized perfusable microvascular networks for biofabrication of standardized in vitro tissue models, and will be carried out in close collaboration with Prof. J. Groll, University Hospital Würzburg, and further cooperation partners in Erlangen, Bayreuth and Würzburg.
The aim of this project is biofabrication of perfusable and fully pre-endothelialized microvascular networks, which will be produced of thermosensitive polyoxazolines and subsequently embedded in cell-containing hydrogels. Particular focus will be placed on biocompatibility of hydrogels (bioinks) and selection of geometries compatible with microscopic techniques. As microvascular endothelium provides an important barrier and functional regulation of physiological processes, we will extensively investigate the efficacy of colonization and network functionality.
The SFB/TRR 225 will provide you, a motivated doctoral student, with excellent interdisciplinary environment to work on tissue model biofabrication. An extensive research training and exchange with other PhD students and investigators of our consortium will broaden your knowledge and help you to complete the doctoral studies and obtain the doctoral degree.
Requirements: To apply, a master's degree with a master thesis in biology, biotechnology, bioengineering, biochemistry, polymer chemistry or equivalent is required. The candidates must have a fluent knowledge of English and German language.
We are looking for motivated candidates with strong team spirit and the ability for independent work and interdisciplinary collaborations. Previous experience with cell culture methods, microfluidic techniques and/or biomaterial cyto-compatibility testing is a benefit. Suitable candidates will be invited to an interview.
