The
University of Potsdam, Faculty of Science, Institute of Biochemistry
and Biology, invites applications for a joint professorship under the
Jülich Model with the
Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental
Crops (IGZ) to be filled as soon as possible:
Full Professorship (W 3) for Genomics and
Bioinformatics in Horticultural Sciences
The professorship is expected to establish a new research group on genomics and
bioinformatics in horticultural plants, strengthening the cooperation between UP and IGZ as
well as the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Golm (MPI-MP).
Candidates should have a proven capacity to integrate modern bioinformatics approaches
with the discovery and functional characterization of agronomically relevant traits in
horticultural crops. A major research focus should be on the development of conceptual
understanding and bioinformatics tools for the analysis of genomics data from horticultural
crop plants and their associated microorganisms. The successful candidate will lead the
Programme Area of “Genomics and Bioinformatics” at the IGZ. The candidates’ research
should address major open questions in genome science and be relevant to horticultural
production constraints and global food security, particularly in consideration of the concept
of planetary boundaries, and should contribute to the rapidly expanding technologies in
plant bioinformatics.
Applicants should be internationally recognized research leaders in their field, with a proven
ability to acquire externally funded projects. Experience in general science management,
social skills, and team-oriented leadership are also required.
The joint professorship is being filled under the Jülich Model, with a teaching obligation of at
least 2 hours per week at the University of Potsdam.
