The
Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Full Professor
in »Molecular Oncology and Functional Genomics«
to begin as soon as possible. The position is a tenured W3 position.
Scientific environment
The professorship is to be part of the TUM School of Medicine, where it will be assigned to the recently initiated Institute of
Molecular Oncology and Functional Genomics. The TUM School of Medicine is one of Germany’s foremost medical schools in research
and in teaching with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational research. It is planned to locate the professorship at
the new Corporate Research Center for Translational Research in Oncology (TranslaTUM). Close interactions with the German Cancer
Consortium (DKTK) and other German Health Centers are desirable.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include research and teaching, as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the
field of molecular oncology of solid cancers with a focus on high-throughput functional genomics, genome engineering, and in vivo disease
modelling for preclinical research and genome-scale screening applications. The successful applicant is likely to be responsible for establishing
a sequencing and bioinformatics infrastructure at the TUM university hospital campus to support basic research and translational initiatives
within the framework of the molecular tumor-board.
The teaching load includes courses in the subject area and fundamentals courses offered by the TUM School of Medicine and other TUM schools and departments.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with an established international reputation, who has demonstrated an outstanding academic record and an
internationally recognized research program. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification
as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. A license to practice medicine in order
to participate in patient care within the framework of the molecular tumor board is desirable. Substantial research experience abroad, proven
ability in leadership of research projects as well as proven ability to gain competitive third-party funding are expected. In addition, expertise
in implementing and running a sequencing and informatics infrastructure in the context of a university hospital is also expected.
