A Hilfswissenschaftler (Hiwi, research assistant) student position is available in the Cognitive Neurophysiology group at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) / Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) Magdeburg. More information about the group is available in the links below.
Hiwi Cognitive Neurophysiology
We are looking for a student with interests in recordings of neural activity in the hippocampus that supports memory and spatial navigation functions.
The focus of the project will be on the ionic mechanisms for continuous neural activity called “persistent firing”. In this project, certain ion-channels will be manipulated by using conditional knockout technique and the effects will be tested using in vitro patch-clamp recordings. The project is a part of a future DFG research project and a continuation of the project is expected. Previous lab experience in patch-clamp recordings, molecular biology and data analysis (programming skills) will be an advantage. Because patch-clamp recording is a skill which requires practice, we are looking for a student who could commit to this work for longer than 6 months, ideally for a year.
