The Institute of Turbomachinery and Fluid Dynamics (TFD) and the Cluster of Excellence "SE2A - Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Aviation" invites applications for a position as a

Junior Research Group Leader for Adaptive
Compressors

(Salary Scale 14 TV-L, 100 %)

to be appointed as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to 4 years. A habilitation is possible.

Leibniz University Hannover, TU Braunschweig, and DLR together pursue the common vision of a safe, efficient and sustainable mobility for the future. To meet future mobility demands, the joint research project "Energy System Transformation in Aviation" defines scientific and technological foundations for a sustainable future global air transport system. The most promising paths through the upcoming transformation of the air transport system aim at new aircraft technologies, new energy storage and conversion approaches, as well as fundamental changes to infrastructure and traffic management.
The overall project is structured into the three core research areas, namely "Overall System Evaluation", "System Platforms", and "Energy Supply". The latter containing the advertised Junior Research Group (JRG) and focusing on vehicle energy storage and conversion systems and full- and hybrid-electric aircraft drive systems.

Responsibilities and duties
In the Integrated Cluster Area "Energy Storage and Conversion", the JRG "Adaptive Compressors" will exploit the synergies between shape-adaptive compressor blades and active flow control. Studies of fundamental flow physics and aeroacoustics will contribute to a profound understanding of unsteady 3D aerodynamics and aeroacoustics in compressors. This new knowledge will help to realize the full technological potential of innovative concepts for highly-loaded but shape-flexible and robust transonic airfoils, and unsteady closed-loop active-flow control (AFC). In conceptual design studies, the highly unsteady effects of aspirated flow, which is injected in upstream blade rows and driven by the interstage pressure difference is evaluated with regard to compressor stability. Shape-adaptive compressor blades will be required to perform active stage-matching and thus contribute to a most flexible energy-supply system.

The JRG will be comprised of the lead and 2 doctoral candidates, funded initially for 4 years as part of the overall project. The group will work in close collaboration with related research efforts.

Employment conditions
The position requires a relevant doctoral degree and the ability to conduct high-level scientific research on the specified subject. A proven track record in international scientific publishing is especially valued. The duties of the Postdoc require excellent communicative skills and cooperative work habits. Very good knowledge of English language is expected.

Part-time employment is possible.

As an equal opportunities employer, Leibniz University Hannover intends to promote women and men. For this reason suitably qualified women are specifically invited to apply. Preference will be given to equally qualified applicants with disabilities.

For further information, please contact Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Seume (Tel. 0049 (0)511 762-2733), who will be pleased to assist.

Please send your application with the usual documents and papers by 17 November 2018 to
