The DKTK is a joint initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the participating states and the DKFZ. The alliance between the DKFZ as the core center and the university partner sites in Berlin, Dresden, Essen / Düsseldorf, Frankfurt / Mainz, Freiburg, München and Tübingen establishes joint translational cancer research units. The DKTK promotes interdisciplinary research approaches and innovative clinical studies, which will contribute to improved prevention, diagnosis and faster implementation of personalized therapies for cancer patients. For the partner site of DKTK Dresden the German Cancer Research Center is seeking a junior group leader with a strong background in translational research in solid cancer. The research field should match with the profile of the DKTK partner site Dresden (
DKTK :: Dresden (dkfz.de)), which focuses on translational radiation research and (radio)immunotherapy of cancer. We are open to applicants coming from other fields of solid tumor research, with the requirement / precondition to align their strategy complementary / co-operative to the established research groups. Competitive applicants are expected to use state-of-the-art pre-clinical models and should have an exceptional track record of accomplishment, with evident future potential and commitment to translational / applied cancer research. The group is thought to be situated in a preclinical-translational area, i.e. developing the last steps of novel treatments or diagnostics before translation into clinical trials. The group is expected to co-operate with clinician scientists for the design of future clinical trials.
The DKTK partner site Dresden and the DKFZ provide access to first class state of the art core facilities in Dresden and Heidelberg. Translational research activities are supported by access to large patient cohorts, high quality tumor tissue banks and excellent clinical research facilities.
The junior research group leader will be employed at the DKFZ Heidelberg and located with his/her research group at OncoRay and Medical Oncology of the University Hospital Dresden, Technische Universität Dresden.
Your profile:
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in medicine or natural science, preferentially (but not required) with postdoctoral experience and have a publication record that is internationally competitive for their stage of the career. The successful candidate is expected to acquire competitive national and international third party research funding.
Provided that all requirements according to the Science Time Law are met, the position will initially be limited to 3 years with the option to extend up to 5 years. Applications of medical scientists as well as clinician scientists are welcome. Applications should include CV, list of publications and a 3-4 page research synopsis that both summarizes current / past research accomplishments and outlines the candidate´s research program for the next 5 years.
