One possible thematic focus of the successful candidates could be on the design, implementation and analysis of pioneering
Randomized Controlled Field Trials in schools including the development of logic/change models and assessment of treatment fidelity (including the further development of statis-tical methods). The successful candidates can also draw on data from existing and ongoing trials and evaluation studies for secondary data analyses. Another possible thematic focus could be on the fu-ture development of research methods for the education sciences and psychology by applying
Big Data Analysis techniques to existing data and to further develop these techniques so that they can be applied in
Learning Analytics research. Potential projects at the Hector Research Institute involve large longitudinal higher education data sets with tens of thousands of students and tens of millions of behavioral clickstream data points, as well as social media data sets with hundreds of thousands of interactions from users in teacher communities.

Educational Effectiveness and Research Methods for the Education Sciences. We are looking for talented researchers from a broad range of perspectives and skills. As such, applicants can come from any of the following fields (or related fields): Psychology, Psychometrics/Data Science, Education, Learning Analytics, Econometrics, Economics and Sociology.
All positions come with a fixed-term contract for 3 years with the possibility for extension for addi-tional 3 years. The expected start date is until mid-2021 but we are flexible and committed to accom-modating candidates’ individual circumstances. The teaching load is anticipated to be one course per semester. There is the expectation to participate in the institute's own postdoctoral academy PACE (Tübingen Postdoctoral Academy for Research on Education) which offers further training, coaching, and mentoring at postdoctoral level. You will also be given the opportunity to join the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network (
www.lead.uni-tuebingen.de) to develop cross-faculty collaborative net-work of researchers working on research on education.
The successful candidates hold an excellent PhD (or will have obtained one by the start date of the position) and have a visible track record (e.g., publication and third-party funding experience) in one of the fields specified above. A visible commitment to research transparency is a bonus. Most important-ly, the successful candidates should demonstrate (1) solid methodological skill set (e.g., experience with the design and analysis of randomized field studies, and (2) substantive experience with or a strong motivation to engage in interdisciplinary research project(s).

The Hector Research Institute is a nationally and internationally leading research center in education sciences and psychology. Our interdisciplinary team works in a well-equipped building close to the historic old town of Tübingen, Germany. Traditionally, research at the Hector Research Institute inves-tigates determinants of successful teaching and learning processes using large scale assessments, longitudinal studies, lab experiments, and randomized controlled field trials.
