PhD Candidate Educational Governance (f/m/div)
The Hertie School of Governance in Berlin is looking for a
PhD Candidate in Educational Governance
starting in September 2019.
The successful candidate will receive a PhD scholarship for three years and an annual budget for field research and conference visits. The PhD project will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Lukas Graf (Assistant Professor of Educational Governance). We particularly welcome PhD projects that look at educational governance in relation to one or more of the following fields of interest.
Fields of interest:
Novel forms of designing and delivering education and training policies in Germany and other countries
Cooperation between key actors like educational organizations, public authorities, employers, unions and intermediary associations
Multi-level perspectives on educational governance
European integration, Europeanization or new modes of governance
Contemporary challenges in the field of education and training such as those posed by social inequality, migration, digitalization, privatization or globalization
Comparative institutional analysis and institutional or organizational change
Linkages between education and other societal spheres (e.g., labour markets, economic sectors, occupational fields, science systems or industry clusters)
Applicants are expected to hold a Master's degree in political science, sociology, educational science or a related discipline (by the start of the scholarship) and demonstrate the theoretical and methodological skills and motivation to pursue theory-driven empirical research. Expertise of educational governance in Germany and at the European level is a plus. A very good command of German and English, both spoken and written, is expected.
The deadline for applications is 5 May 2019. Applicants should submit their full application (preferably in English) - including a letter of motivation, CV,
short dissertation proposal (max. 5,000 words, excluding references), two examples of their academic work (e.g., their MA thesis or seminar papers), copies of certificates and
transcripts of BA and MA degrees or equivalent degrees, and the contact details of two academic references. Please collect your application documents in one PDF file. Proof of
