PhD of Global Studies

Analyzing One Health implementation across EU-member states

The Department of Social Sciences and Business, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as PhD of Global Studies from June 1st 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as PhD is limited to a period of 3 years.

The PhD-scholarship is based on a collaboration between Roskilde University, Denmark, the National Veterinary Institute, Sweden and Istituto Superiore di Sanita, Italy

Description of the PhD project
This PhD project combines animal and public health with political science/public administration by investigating the political drivers and constraints for increased transboundary integration and institutionalization of the One Health approach across EU-member states.

The One Health approach recognizes that human health is tightly connected to the health of animals and the environment. Animal feed, human food, animal and human health and environmental contamination are all closely linked. A key objective of the PhD project is to produce findings for the One Health European Joint Programme (OHEJP) on how to produce a sustainable One Health collaboration at the European level. The OHEJP is a H2020 scheme supported by the EU, based on partnership between 38 acclaimed veterinary and medical laboratories and institutes across Europe.

The PhD aims to assess drivers and constraints for institutionalisation of a sustainable One Health community. Preferably, the research design should be based on mixed methods where various methodological approaches feed into each other. The PhD will gain unique access to many of the 38 OHEJP partner agencies both in terms of existing written materials as well as the ability to carry out surveys to provide data on the institutionalization of the One Health approach among different epistemological communities both cross-country and cross-sectoral.
