Nationales Metrologieinstitut
The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical
service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science.
For research projects in MR imaging and spectroscopy, Department 8.1 "Biomedical Magnetic Resonance" of Division 8 is looking for
PhD students or post docs
to join us as soon as possible. The positions are available on the basis of a 3-year fixed-term contract. The remuneration will be paid in accordance with
remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund (85 % for PhD students, 100 % for post docs). You will be employed at our Berlin site.
Department 8.1 in Berlin is working on research and development in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy (MRS). We are operating a
3-tesla whole-body scanner which is installed on site and we are a partner of the Berlin Ultrahigh Field Facility (BUFF) providing us access to a 7-tesla whole-body scanner.
Projects:
- MR guided radiation therapy (P1): development of a robust system for detection and tracking of moving organs by combining MRI with independent, external information on the organ position, e.g. from ultra-wideband radar signals.
- Implant safety (P2&P3): development of novel concepts to ensure the safety of patients with implants during an MRI scan; risk assessment based on simulations and sensor measurements in phantoms; implementation of thermal dose concepts for risk quantification; risk management by E-field steering using parallel transmission.
- MR spectroscopy (P4): sequence development for improved metabolite detection and quantification using MRS particularly at 7 T; in-vivo measurements in close cooperation with clinical research groups at 3 T and 7 T.
Your profile:
- You have a postgraduate qualification (German "Diplom" or master) in physics, electrical engineering or in a comparable field of engineering/natural sciences.
- You have excellent programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab, C/C++).
- Basic understanding of MRI/MRS is desirable.
- You have excellent communication skills and are a team player.
- You have a good command of spoken and written English and experience with writing scientific texts.
- You are ready and able to push the research activities in an interdisciplinary team with enthusiasm and commitment.
- You are ready to travel for business purposes.
