HELMHOLTZ-ZENTRUM FÜR POLAR- UND MEERESFORSCHUNG
The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF)
and funded by federal and state government. AWI focuses on polar and marine research in a variety of disciplines such as biology,
oceanography, geology, geochemistry and geophysics thus allowing multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals.
The section Coastal Ecology invites applications for a position as a
with a focus on nutrient chemistry, benthopelagic coupling and the long-term data analysis of nutrient data from the greater Wadden Sea area.
Embedded within the framework of the renowned Sylt Time series we seek a scientist (f/m) for the evaluation of long term nutrient shifts and their relation to the micro ecology and benthic habitat in the Wadden Sea.
This will involve the amalgamation of long-term nutrient measurements from transects in the Wadden Sea and German Bight with highly resolved automated FERRYBOX data.
It is expected that the overall hydrographic situation of the German Wadden Sea, including current models be used as an information base and that overarching meteorological parameters are included.
The nutrient status should be compared with productivity evaluations based on for example algal cell counts.
PhD degree with focus on nutrient chemistry and marine ecology. You should have a proven experience with both automated and hand measured
nutrient techniques. The knowledge of HPLC for accompanying pigment analyses is advantageous. Proficiency in handling large data sets,
database management, and advanced statistics will be highly ranked.
The position is limited to five years. The salary will be paid in accordance with the German Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes (TVöD Bund)
up to salary group 13, based on qualifications and transferred tasks. The place of employment will be List on Sylt.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop his/her own scientific career based on the project by acquiring further funding.
The position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate has been found.
We offer you a multi-disciplinary, international, and fascinating professional environment with flexible working hours, state-of-the-art research equipment, and a first-rate infrastructure.
AWI aims to increase the number of women in the scientific staff and therefore encourages women to apply.
