Three-year postdoc position in studies on relationship between participants in the livestock production chain and interactions between humans and animals
At the Department of Animal Science, Aarhus University, a postdoc position is available starting December 2021
We seek a candidate with a background in anthropology, or alternatively in human or social sciences, with insight into animal husbandry and animal health and welfare. The preferred candidate has experience in conducting and analysing qualitative data such as semi-structured interviews, participant-observation, and narratives. The research focus on interactions between humans and animals, in particular farm animals. Main research areas are the importance of husbandry, studies on actors in relation to animal welfare and prudent use of antibiotics. Research further includes development and application of methods for communication and learning about animal welfare assessment and animal welfare and health control in livestock herds. The assignments include teaching on communication at many levels and supervision of students. The chosen candidate is expected to join and develop ongoing research within the research group in Welfare. Collaboration with farmers, farming industries, veterinarians and animal welfare authorities is part of the assignment.
Qualifications
- Academic qualifications at PhD level in anthropology or related field
- Documentation of excellent skills within the research area
- Good skills in communication of research results internationally as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals and books
- Experience in supervising students and teaching at a high academic level will also be a merit

This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.
