The department ‘Chemical Biology’, led by Prof. Brönstrup, at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), is offering the position of a
Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) ‘Chemical Biology/Virology’
The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research GmbH (HZI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the largest scientific organization in Germany.
Scientists at the HZI develop strategies to better combat infectious diseases. Their goal is to develop novel approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and therapy of infectious diseases. To this end, they study bacterial and viral pathogens and their interaction with the immune system and explore new active ingredients.
The strategic aim of the department ‘Chemical Biology’ is to discover and characterize novel anti-infectives through screening, mode of action studies and chemical synthesis.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the investigation of the cellular and molecular mechanism of antiviral lead compounds. For this purpose, the effects of natural products and synthetic compounds on cellular and viral membrane components will be studied by modern bioanalytical techniques including mechanosensitive and chemoselective fluorescent probes for high resolution microscopy, mass spectrometry-based leakage and internalization studies, or cellular infection experiments. A part of the work will be performed in biosafety level 3 laboratories on the campus.
Requirements:
Candidates should have a completed Ph.D. degree in cell biology, biochemistry, virology or related disciplines and a track record of successful scientific work proven by peer-reviewed scientific publications. The candidates should be familiar with experimental methods of molecular biology, biochemistry and bioanalytics. Expertise in virology is considered an advantage. The ability to work in a multidisciplinary and international team is mandatory.
We offer you:
The centre provides modern laboratories, state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation, ample biological profiling platforms (in vitro and in vivo), a lively scientific community and support for an individual personal development, that will provide the ideal background to further develop the career of successful candidates.
Severely handicapped persons with equivalent professional qualifications are given preference. In order to protect your rights, we ask you to provide us with a clearly recognizable reference to the existence of a degree of severe disability in your cover letter or resume.
