The Technical University of Munich (TUM) seeks to strengthen its expertise in the fields of molecular and ecological plant sciences. The strategic goal is an integration of advanced research to address current challenges and opportunities in agriculture, horticulture, forestry and environmental sciences. As part of this initiative two positions are to be filled. For both positions the call is open rank, from the level of W2 Tenure Track Assistant Professor (with tenure track to W3) to the level of W3 Associate/Full Professor, depending on qualification.

Professor
in »Functional Plant Ecology«

Research of this professorship is expected on plant structures and systemic functions that interact with environmental factors and determine resource dynamics in plant populations and communities. The focus should be on ecophysiological processes controlling growth and reproduction of plants. Teaching is expected in basic and advanced functional plant ecology for students of biology, forestry, agricultural sciences and landscape planning.

Scientific environment
The professorships belong to the Research Departments Plant Sciences and/or Ecology and Ecosystem Management within the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan. Infrastructure available include the Core Facilities of the School of Life Sciences for high throughput sequencing, proteomics, bioimaging, advanced climate chambers (TUMmesa), the Greenhouse Laboratory Center Dürnast and experimental farm and forest sites (e.g. KROOF). In case of appointments as W2 Tenure Track Assis-tant Professors, the professorships are funded by the Federal Tenure Track Programme.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, regarding the relevant career level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research expe-rience abroad and commitment to do interdisciplinary research are expected.

Our offer
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor. The regulations of TUM Faculty Recruitment and Ca-reer System apply.
TUM provides excellent working conditions in a lively scientific community, embedded in the vibrant re-search environment of the Greater Munich Area. Furthermore, TUM offers attractive and performance-based salary conditions and additional social benefits.

The TUM Munich Dual Career Office (MDCO) provides tailored career consulting to the partners of new-ly appointed professors. MDCO gives assistance for relocation and integration of new professors, their partners and accompanying family members.

Your Application
TUM is an equal opportunity employer. As such, we explicitly encourage applications from women. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications will be given preference.
Application documents should be presented in accordance with TUM’s application guidelines for professors. These guidelines and detailed information about the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System are available on http://www.tum.de/faculty-recruiting.

Please send your application no later than August 29, 2018 to the Dean of TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan, Prof. Dr. Thomas Becker, Email: dekanat@wzw.tum.de.
