The Philosophical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität
Bonn is looking to fill the
W 3 Professorial Chair
for Security and Strategic Studies (Henry Kissinger Professorship)
at the earliest possible starting date.
The Professorial Chair is dedicated to research and teaching in the area of International
Security in the sense of Strategic Studies including Transatlantic
Relations. It is involved in the study programs of the Department for Political
Science and Sociology at the University of Bonn, especially regarding courses
that are related to Security Studies. Simultaneously, the Professorial Chair
is tied to a leading position in the innovative research structure of the newly
established "Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies"
(CASSIS) of the University of Bonn. Within this framework, the Professor will
be part of CASSIS's board of directors.
One of the main tasks of the chair will be to systematize and advance research
related to security policy in various scientific disciplines, both inside and outside
of the structures of the University of Bonn, in a practice-oriented manner. Here,
traditional security policy issues related to strategic studies will receive the
same amount of attention as new security challenges such as cyberattacks,
terrorist networks, and instabilities related to climate and development. Another
task will be to encourage public debates about security policy within the Federal
Republic of Germany by carrying out publicly accessible activities and lecture

international network, a proven track record in terms of research and work
experience as well as experience in managing sophisticated scientific structures.
A focus on interdisciplinary security studies as well as experience with acquiring
and executing third-party funded projects is expected.
Hiring conditions according to § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-
Westphalia ("Hochschulgesetz NRW") include a university degree (Master,
Magister, Diplom or Staatsexamen), a PhD as well as a postdoctoral qualification
(habilitation or another comparable accomplishment).
