Modell) for the following professorship:
W2-Professorship for food chemistry and
analytics of plant secondary metabolites
The professorship is expected to establish a research group on analytical chemistry of plant secondary
metabolites in horticultural crops, strengthening the cooperation between UP, IGZ and other partners
in the Berlin/Brandenburg area.
We are looking for an outstanding scientist who is working in the research interface between food
chemistry, plant biology, and nutritional science and focuses on the development and implementation
of analytical methods for the elucidation of biosynthesis pathways of plant secondary metabolites including
signal transduction. Candidates are sought with demonstrated competencies to integrate modern analytical
approaches for the analysis, identification, and functional characterization of volatile and nonvolatile
plant secondary metabolites.
The research should be responsive to the rapidly developing analytical technologies. Potential methodologies
include, but are not limited to, gas and liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.
Requirements are a PhD, a habilitation or equivalent scholarly achievements, international professional
experience, and suitable teaching skills and experience. Applicants also need to have national and
international visibility in the research areas relevant for the professorship, experience in the successful
acquisition and implementation of externally funded projects.
The successful applicant will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research
program in analytical science of plant secondary metabolites. We expect a significant contribution in the
advanced development of an analytical platform to characterise and improve horticultural crop species
also in context of global food security.
The professorship has a teaching requirement of 2 hours per week in English and German language at the
Bachelor and Master courses of the Institute of Nutritional Science of the UP.
The employment is planned according to the "Jülicher Modell". The candidate will be appointed as a civil
