The Faculty of Human Sciences, Cognitive Sciences, at the University of
Potsdam invites applications for
Professor (W 2) for Variation and Variability
in Morphosyntax/Morphological Systems:
Theory and Models
The holder of this position will investigate and model variation and variability
in morpho-syntactic systems, compared to universal tendencies. The empirical
focus lies on non-Indo-European languages, especially on the identification of
structural similarities and differences, and how these inform grammar-theoretical
and typological modeling.
The prospective professor will have proof of expertise (in research and teaching)
in the comparative evaluation of variation and variability of non-Indo-European
languages. In addition to a specialization in morphology and/or morphosyntax, we
welcome applications that demonstrate solid expertise in syntax, a specialization
in African languages, and expertise in at least one other non-Indo-European
language family.
Applicants must have a solid background in grammar theory and theoretical
modeling, work with empirical-experimental methods, and demonstrate how
grammar-theoretical modeling can be advanced through cross-linguistic and
within-language variation. Their research profile must fit excellently to the research
focuses of the Collaborative Research Centre/SFB 1287, to which they are expected
to contribute. They will teach undergraduate and graduate courses (in German and
English) in linguistics in the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree programs offered by the
Department of Linguistics. Very good command of English is a prerequisite; an
international network and experience in the acquisition of third-party funding are
also desired.
The hiring process is subject to the requirements set forth in section 41
Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG). The appointment procedure shall
be conducted in accordance with section 40 BbgHG.
Applications (to be submitted in English, including a presentation of your
research interests, curriculum vitae, copies of academic certificates and
documents, a list of publications, a list of courses taught, a list of externally
funded projects) should be sent (in a single PDF file) to the University of
Potsdam at ausschreibungen@uni-potsdam.de within four weeks of the
publication of this notice. If you have any questions, please contact Prof. Dr.
Gisbert Fanselow (fanselow@uni-potsdam.de).
