Department of Biochemistry and Biology at the Faculty of Science of
the University of Potsdam (UP) and the
Leibniz-Institute of Vegetable and
Ornamental Crops (IGZ) invite applications for a joint appointment (Jülicher
Modell) in the following professorship
W3-Professorship for Genomics and
Bioinformatics in Horticultural Sciences
The professorship is expected to establish a new research group on genomics
and bioinformatics in horticultural crops, strengthening the cooperation between
UP and IGZ as well as the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in
Golm (MPI-MP).
Candidates should have a proven capacity to integrate modern bioinformatics
approaches with the discovery and functional characterization of horticultural
traits. A major research focus should be on the development of bioinformatics
tools and on the analysis of genomics data from crop plants and their associated
microorganisms. The successful candidate will lead the Department of Genomics
and Bioinformatics at the IGZ. The candidates research should focus on
horticultural production constraints and global food security, and should contribute
to the rapidly expanding technologies in plant bioinformatics.
Applicants should be internationally recognized in the relevant research field
with an excellent publication record in internationally renowned scientific journals
and a proven ability to acquire externally funded projects. Experience in general
science management, social skills and team-oriented leadership are also
required.
The joint professorship is being filled under the Jülich Model, with a teaching
obligation of at least 2 hours per week at the University of Potsdam.
The following application requirements for professors must be documented
in accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act
(Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG): a completed university
degree, pedagogical aptitude, and a special ability for scientific work, as is
typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive competences in
science management and additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by
a
Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a
research associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural research
institution, or scholarly activity in the private sector, or in a similar social field,
whether in Germany or abroad. The appointment procedure is conducted in
accordance with Section 40 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act.
