Faculty of Physics, Institute of Applied Physics
(IAP) invites applications for the
Chair (W2) of Topological Photonics
to be filled at
1st July 2020.
We are looking for a scientist able to represent the field of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics in research
and teaching. Your research should focus on the field of topological photonics. The professorship is embedded into
the Cluster of Excellence "Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter - ct.qmat" in which phenomena, materials,
and applications of topological physics are investigated. If you can contribute to strengthening this active research
area with a long-term perspective, e.g. via design, preparation, optical characterization and modelling of photonic
structures with topological effects, you will fulfil a central criterion for being appointed. In addition to active
research within ct.qmat, participations in other collaborative research activities is explicitly desired. We expect
you to fulfil teaching duties within the Faculty of Physics. Your duties furthermore include participation in academic
selfadministration and in academic boards.
To be eligible for the position, you need a doctorate in physics or a related discipline as well as a habilitation or
habilitation-equivalent achievements in research and teaching. We furthermore expect you to be familiar with
acquiring third-party funding and to be experienced in project and group management. Special emphasis is placed
on top-class publications, strong international contacts, as well as independently acquired and successfully
conducted research projects. You should be able to give courses in both German and English. Immediate proficiency
of the German language is not a prerequisite, but we expect you to acquire language skills sufficient to conduct
teaching and administrative tasks in German within a reasonable period of time. Applicants must fulfil the
employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in
the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
