The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) is one of the leading international centres for population science. It is part of the Max Planck Society, a world-leading research organisation with more than 80 research institutes in natural sciences, technology, social sciences, and humanities. MPIDR hosts the secretariat of the European network Population Europe, which currently includes 36 internationally leading research institutes from all over Europe in the field of policy-relevant population research. The main focus of Population Europe's work is on communicating research findings to decision-makers in politics, business and society, and to the wider public. To this end, the network produces publications and organises events (e.g. in Berlin and Brussels). The secretariat is located in the WissenschaftsForum am Gendarmenmarkt, Markgrafenstraße 37, in Berlin.
Your Tasks:
The Secretariat of Population Europe, headed by Dr Andreas Edel, is looking for a project coordinator to support an international team whose tasks include:
- The ongoing development and realisation of a suitable outreach strategy (i.e. focus, channels, timing, media monitoring, key performance indicators);
- Development of project publications (such as policy briefs and discussion papers);
- Preparation and support for events (virtual, hybrid, and in-person) with decision makers within research, politics, and broader society on the topics of the projects as well as the projects’ concluding events;
- Content creation and management of social media accounts;
- Coordinating the collaboration with researchers, institutions, and external production agencies around project deliverables;
- Press and editorial work for the overall scientific communication of the projects on various channels;
- Thematic research within the boundaries of the projects;
- Composing, editing, and supporting the publication of English texts;
- Responding to media inquiries with the help of the scientists;
- Further developing researcher’s media skills.
Your Profile:
- University degree, preferably in journalism or in humanities, social or life sciences;
- Proven qualification and work experience in journalism (experiences with data-driven journalistic projects are a plus);
- Proven experience with online communication, website development, and social media, including visual components;
- Ideally, experience with the planning and organising of events;
- Excellent spoken and written knowledge of English (and ideally, German) at least at C1 level;
- Professional approach to communicating with participant researchers.
