Title: "Technical, economic and environmental evaluation of decentralised energy technologies and systems"
The European Institute for Energy Research EDF-KIT EWIV (EIFER), established by EDF and KIT, located in Karlsruhe is currently looking for a
Research Fellow m/f: "Technical, economic and environmental evaluation of decentralised energy technologies and systems"
in the competence field "Environmental/Applied Economics" within the "Energy Transition, Markets, Environment" research group.
The investigation of new trends within the energy system and the identification of new or the consolidation of existing business models require a holistic view. EIFER integrates the two main strands of applied economics - by taking into account methods for the economic assessment and evaluation of energy systems - as well as methods for the assessment of environmental impacts and the identification of opportunities of these systems.
Given the cross-cutting nature of the requested competence, several of the tasks described below will be conducted in close collaboration with EIFER's technical working groups on "low carbon hydrogen systems" as well as "local multi-energy systems".
The assigned tasks involve
Monitoring and analysing decentralised energy technologies and local hybrid systems from a regulatory, technical and market perspective
Assessing the environmental performance of technologies relevant for EIFER (fuel cells, electrolyser cells, micro-cogeneration, etc.)
The job applicant should hold a Master degree or equivalent in industrial engineering, environmental economics, or applied economics, and ideally has gained first professional experiences.
Technological (and regulatory) knowledge on cogeneration, hydrogen fuel and electrolyser cells as well as on other decentralised energy technologies; a know-how on material recycling industrial processes is seen as advantage
Ability to understand and analyse economics of decentralised energy technologies as well as their interactions with energy markets
Understanding of environmental assessment methods such as life-cycle assessment (LCA), knowledge of relevant tools would be an asset
Ability to work independently and responsibly in a structured way and to convey clear and efficient messages (orally and written); interdisciplinary and analytical thinking; ability to identify suitable methods and development of tools
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, competences in programming language (e.g. Python) and management of database systems are seen as an advantage
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, very good level of French and ideally German
The applicant should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team of researchers. The duration of the position is initially limited to two years, starting as soon as possible.
The salary is based on qualification and experience according to TV-L (100%).
