Applications are invited for a scientist/postdoctoral position at the Core Unit Systems Medicine (SysMed) – a joint institution of the University of Würzburg and the University Hospital of Würzburg, Germany. The future holder of the position will coordinate and supervise the high-throughput sequencing activities of the Core Unit SysMed (e.g. RNA/DNA sequencing projects, supervision of technicians, reporting and documentation of projects) as well as establish new deep sequencing protocols (e.g. single cell sequencing approaches).

Applicants should have a doctoral / PhD degree and a strong background in deep sequencing approaches and technologies (preferentially Illumina systems), and molecular biology. We also expect an interest in developing bulk RNA-seq approaches further to the level of single-cell RNA-seq. Additional knowledge in project management and proficiency in German would be beneficial.

The Core Unit SysMed provides a highly dynamic research environment and excellent career opportunities. Researchers of the unit are involved in numerous internal and external collaborative projects that employ deep sequencing technologies and/or bioinformatics analyses (see, e.g., Westermann AJ et al. 2016 Nature 529(7587):496-501; Saliba AE et al. 2016 Nature Microbiology 2:16206; Müller LSM et al. 2018 Nature 563(7729):121-125; Erhard F et al. 2019 Nature 571(7765):419-423; Imdahl F. et al., Nature Microbiology 2020 5(10):1202-1206).

Salary will be based on the pay scale for the public sector in Germany (TV-L). The position can be filled in full- or part-time and will be initially limited to 2 years with scheduled and funded possibility for extension. Preference will be given to handicapped persons in case of otherwise equal aptitude.
