The Cluster »Matters of Activity. Image Space Material« aims to create a basis for a new culture of materials. The central vision of the Cluster is to rediscover the analog in the activity of images, spaces and materials in the age of the digital. Biology and technology, mind and material, nature and culture intertwine in a new way. In this context, the interdisciplinary research and development of sustainable practices and structures is a central concern in areas such as architecture and soft robotics, textiles, materials and digital filters, and surgical cutting techniques.
The project »Cutting« seeks to fill a student assistant position to further develop the concept and application of »Virtual Dissection«. The research project will focus on the investigation of the use of haptic feedback in interactive data visualizations within virtual reality. The case study will be rooted in functional vertebrate morphology and will test the potential for the gain of knowledge into form-function relationships. This is to be achieved through interactive spatial data exploration and force-feedback for the differentiation of tissues in combined and cross-registered imaging datasets stemming from diverse modalities (CT, MRT, etc.). The overarching goal is the identification of general principles of feedback-informed virtual dissection approaches that could be further used in the contexts of computational medicine and evolutionary biology. The student assistant will support the project in the realization of an interactive VR demonstrator and the implementation of haptic VR interactions.
Duties:
We offer you the opportunity to gain insights into an exciting interdisciplinary work environment and to contribute your own expertise.
As an interdisciplinary research Cluster, we know that diversity makes us better. It is important to us that our employees not only reflect a broad spectrum of social, personal and cultural backgrounds and life experiences, but also that they can fully contribute to the work environment in their individuality. We particularly welcome applications from women*, people with personal or family migration biographies, and people with diverse skills.
Applications in English, quoting the reference number MoA_01_2022 should be sent to the following address by 03 Feburuary:
