The 'Munich Center for the Economics of Aging' (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy offers a full time position as
Survey Methodologist (m/f/d)
in the SHARE project at the earliest possible date. The position is limited to a
two-year contract, with the possibility of extension conditional on funding. SHARE, the 'Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe' is a large international
social science panel study. The data combines extensive cross-national information on socio-economic status, health and family relations of Europe's elder population.
Your tasks will include:
- Being a liaison to survey agencies and country teams in SHARE for communicating field monitoring results
- Help with the conceptual development of routines to monitor fieldwork in all SHARE countries
- Collecting, processing and documentation of paradata that occur during data collection
- Provide assistance for evaluating sampling designs and weighting schemes
- Coordination, process definition and documentation of several data linkage projects in different SHARE countries
- Conduct own (substantial and/or methodological) research with SHARE data, in particular
regarding data linkage in SHARE
The ideal candidate would bring the following qualifications:
- University degree in social sciences, demography, statistics, economics, public health, epidemiology, data science or a related field (with or without PhD)
- Extensive knowledge of quantitative data analysis and statistical software, preferable Stata (or R, SPSS); good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in methodological issues (e.g. nonresponse, data linkage, machine learning approaches) and/or fieldwork monitoring
- Experience with large-scale (cross-national) surveys
- Strong proficiency in English, good knowledge of German desirable
- Track record of self-organized and highly proactive working style
- Team player mentality with proven management experience
- Interest in own research on substantive or methodological topics (willingness to pursue a PhD for pre-doc applicants desirable)
