The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Tenure Track Assistant Professor in »Geothermal Technologies«
to begin in winter semester 2018/19. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track option to a tenured W3
position (Associate Professor). The professorship is funded by the Federal Tenure Track Programme.
The professorship belongs to the TUM Department of Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering and will be cross-appointed to the
Integrative Research Center (IRC) Munich School of Engineering (MSE); therefore the professorship will be affiliated with the
Geothermal-Alliance Bavaria. Additionally it will be affiliated with the Munich GeoCenter, a collaboration of the Technical
University of Munich and the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich.
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert
in the research area of reservoir, drilling and production engineering with a focus on (deep) drilling or completion and well engineering,
pump technology or related scopes. The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs taught in German
and English language explicitly in the newly established master programs "Geothermal Energy" and "Engineering and Hydrology".
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the
highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well
as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is
expected. The candidate should have a deep knowledge of reservoir or petroleum engineering, drilling engineering, production engineering,
hydraulic engineering, petroleum geoscience/engineering or related fields with a fundamental knowledge of engineering practices. He/she
should show full commitment to do interdisciplinary research. Practical experience in industrial petroleum production or (deep) drilling is desirable.
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track
faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor. The regulations of TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System apply.
