The Institute for Statistics and Operation Research of the University of Vienna is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to participate in the department's research, teaching (to the extent regulated by the collective bargaining agreement), and administrative activities. In particular, the candidate is expected to participate in research projects leading to international publications and presentations. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: dimension reduction and classification for structured dependent data, Bayesian approaches to machine learning algorithms or predictive inference. Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will join the faculty and participate actively in the department's research, teaching (to the extent regulated by the collective bargaining agreement), and administrative activities. In particular, the candidate is expected to participate in research projects leading to international publications and presentations.
Profile:
• a Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics, or a closely related discipline (completed or pending completion)
• a strong background in mathematical statistics and probability theory
• promising potential for original high-level research
• proficiency in written and spoken Englisch
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have
• Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
• Experience of working on interdisciplinary research projects
• Publications in renowned, subject-relevant media (peer-reviewed, depending on the professional standards)
• International presentation experience
Desirable qualifications are
• Knowledge of university processes and structures
• Experience abroad
• Experience of supervising students
