The Research Group “Computer Science Education/Didaktik der Informatik” (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Knobelsdorf) pursues interdisciplinary research combining methods and theories from Education, Learning and Social Sciences investigating open problems in teaching and learning of Computer Science Education and creating potential technological solutions within educational setting in general. Amongst multiple research engagements, one line of teaching activities within the group is specifically dedicated to pre-service teacher education in Computer Science. We offer a diverse and challenging position addressing candidates who seek to pursue a doctorate in one of the research fields of the group. The candidate will be involved in all activities of the group related to academic administration and teaching as well as research including publishing and presenting research results at conferences and in prestigious research journals as well as grant application processes. Therefore, the position prepares for a potential career in academic, administration or business contexts of Computer Science Education.
Duration of employment:
4 years (The announcement is made for four years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of four years unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.)

- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.

Profile:
Candidates must have a university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) related to the research field of the group by the expected start date. Candidates in all areas of Computer Science, Informatics, or Software Engineering are welcomed to apply, particularly those with experiences or a strong interest (or both) in Education, educational psychology, learning sciences or social sciences with strong ties to Education. Alternatively, candidates have graduated in the latter with Computer Science as minor subject or strong readiness to Computer Science, particularly programming, algorithms, and human-computer-interaction. Mostly, we encourage in-service teachers of Computer Science in K-12/secondary education (Informatik Lehrer*innen Sekundarstufe AHS, MNS,BHS) and graduates with a Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science Teacher Education (Lehramt Unterrichtsfach Informatik) to apply.
Candidates bring a strong interest and commitment to the research field of the group, especially Computer Science Education and Informatik Didaktik, with the aim of getting their doctoral degree. We expect proficient speaking and writing English skills. For German non-native speakers, we expect German language skills or a strong commitment to adopt German within the first years.
The position includes regular teaching duties in courses of the undergraduate and graduate study programs offered at the Computer Science Faculty, mostly in the Computer Science Teacher Education program.
