As part of a joint appointment process with the German Aerospace Center e. V. (DLR), the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) invites candidates to apply for a position based on the "Jülich Model" at the earliest opportunity:

Maritime Energy Systems
in combination with
Director of the DLR Institute of Maritime Energy Systems
The holder of the professorship is expected to undertake teaching and research in the field of Maritime Energy Systems. She/he will show a strong interest in conducting scientific research as part of national and international research collaborations and in highly ranked publications. Moreover, she/he should be focused on collaborations with industry, ensuring rapid technology transfer and that research and innovation activities benefit from an understanding of the economic and regulatory context of the respective industries. The successful candidate should have experience and expertise in as many as possible of the following core areas:
Development of CO2 reduction strategies for energy supply on ships including fuel supply in harbors
Use of hydrogen and synthetic fuels to supply maritime energy systems in an environmentally friendly and climate-neutral way
Development of integrated energy systems for the energy supply of ships and their operating concepts
Optimal integration of energy systems into future ship designs
Development of energy infrastructure in ports and integration into energy conversion and storage concepts of future energy systems
Modelling and simulation of energy systems in ships and ports with regard to virtual design and digital twins
Requirements are a university degree preferably in engineering science and an excellent doctorate preferably in energy technology/energy systems with a strong focus on maritime applications. The holder of the professorship is expected to initiate interdisciplinary research through research collaborations with other institutes of Hamburg University of Technology and the DLR; a close cooperation is expected with the Center for Energy Systems Research which is to be founded at Hamburg University of Technology. The same is true of the cooperation with other research partners located within and outside the Hamburg Metropolitan Area.
The holder of the professorship is expected to teach courses in German and/or English for existing Bachelor and Master Programs according to the "Jülich Model" (2 hours of teaching per week). She/he is expected to contribute to TUHH’s prominent profile of innovative teaching methods with high quality undergraduate (B.Sc.) and graduate (M.Sc.) courses.
The candidate is expected to have experience in raising funds for research grants and conducting science programs. An ability and willingness to creatively strengthen the profile of DLR and Hamburg University of Technology is essential.
The candidate is expected to have a proven track record and extensive experience in leadership and affiliations to national and international networks within the field of this professorship. She/he should be able to represent the research field comprehensively in front of communities, both from academia and industry. The holder of the position is expected to have experience in the acquisition and implementation of cooperation projects, as well as large-scale research, ideally in industry. The candidate should be willing to learn German.
