Assistant/Associate Professorships in Digital Innovation at the IT University of Copenhagen

The Business IT Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites qualified applications for up to three Assistant or Associate Professors in the area of Digital Innovation or related disciplines, such as Digital Transformation, Information Systems, or Business Informatics. The proposed starting date is December 2019 or soon thereafter. An earlier start date may be negotiated.

We invite applicants who want to contribute to the IT University's vision of creating and sharing knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity, and more specifically contribute to the Business IT Department's research and education, both foundational and with impact on industry and society (see https://en.itu.dk/research/departments/business-it-department).

Job Description

The new Assistant or Associate Professors are expected to do research and teach in one or more of the following areas:
  • Digital Innovation: Preference is given to applicants with a focus on Innovation Practices, New Digital Business Models, Managing and Organizing IT-enabled Innovation Projects, (Business) Process Innovation, Employee-driven Innovation, and/or Entrepreneurship.
  • Digital Transformation: Preference is given to applicants with a focus on IT-supported Organizational Transformation, Leadership and Governance in Networked Organizations, and/or the Digitization of Products, Services, Business Functions, and Business Models.
  • Creating Value with Emerging Digital Technologies: Preference is given to applicants with a focus on Blockchain Technologies, Digital Platforms, and Business Value of Applications for Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, (Robotic) Process Automation, and/or (Big) Data Analytics. The focus should be on creating value for individuals, businesses, organizations, and/or society with these technologies, rather than on the technologies themselves.

Research Qualification Requirements

The ideal applicant has a solid track record in publishing research within the above areas in internationally renowned journals and conferences in Information Systems and related disciplines. Proven ability to balance theoretical profoundness, methodological rigor, and practical relevance is required.

Proven expertise in one or more of the following areas are also appreciated:
  • Working in interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Successful research projects in close collaboration with enterprises.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following research methods: Behavior-oriented Information Systems research, qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, design science research, Action Research, computational social science, or experience in mixed methods research.
It is highly desirable that the applicant is willing and able to actively and positively contribute to our interdisciplinary research environment. The IT University also carries out teaching and research in a range of other areas, including digital culture, digital media and communication, computer games, interaction design, pervasive interaction technology, technologies in practice, software engineering, theoretical computer science, and information systems management.

Teaching Qualification Requirements

Applicants should be willing and able to teach courses in Information Systems, including core courses like Systems Design and Implementation, Databases, IT Project and Change Management, Requirements Analysis, and/or Business Process Management. Ability to teach courses supporting related areas is a plus, such as in Business Analysis, Information Visualization, Service Design, or CSCW. All courses are taught in English. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong teaching portfolio in areas that are complementary with the interests of the existing faculty.

The ideal candidate should document:
  • Publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer reviewed venues
  • Competences in developing and conducting teaching that is well received by students
  • A record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which he/she has worked, for example participation in committees, etc.
In addition, candidates for the position as associate professorship should be able to:
  • Attract external research funding
  • Supervise PhD students
  • Read/speak a Scandinavian language (or have the willingness to learn Danish)

General information

The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full-time academics. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities and social sciences, business impact and the commercialization of IT.

The assistant professorship is a temporary position for up to 4 years with the possibility of extension. The position requires academic qualifications at PhD level.

Salary

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance's agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

  • Copies of 3-5 publications relevant to the position.
  • A numbered list of publications. The enclosed publications should be marked with an asterisk (*)
  • Documentation of pedagogical experience and teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position
  • For the position as associate professor: documentation of both a) received observation and feedback on teaching, b) pedagogical training courses as a teacher, c) a formal written assessment of teaching competence and d) a teaching record within one or more of the teaching areas listed for the position

The applicant will be assessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 13 March 2012.

The IT University may use shortlisting in connection to the recruitment process. In case of shortlisting, the Chairman of the hiring committee selects applicants for assessment in consultation with the hiring committee after the application deadline. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The shortlisting of candidates for assessment is based on the criteria in the job posting.
