The Faculty of Civil Engineering invites applications for an
Assistant Professorship - Tenure Track transport planning and mobility
in form of an initially fixed-term (6 years) tenure track position starting from 01.10.2021. The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract.
The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Transportation, Research Center of Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering. Duties include research and teaching in the field of multimodal transport & mobility research.
As a fact future environmental, technological and socio-economic developments and frameworks will change the needs and challenges of physical mobility and the transport infrastructure built for it. In the field of mobility, highly dynamic developments, fundamental changes and upheavals will take place in the next decades through environmentally necessary shift away from fossil fuels, digitization and automation.
The aim of the career position is to strengthen and further develop the Research Center of transport planning and traffic engineering in research and teaching in a European and international context.
Tasks:
Research:
- Analysis, modeling and technology assessment of complex effect interrelations in the entire environment-society-economy system
- The impacts of known trends such as digitization and automation, ageing society, sharing, globalization, climate change and needed adaptation for them will have to be researched qualitatively and quantitatively.
- Identification and assessment of emerging technological and societal developments in the fields of transportation.
- Technological and socio-politically relevant research topics in the field of goods and personal mobility
- Extensive methodological knowledge in the areas of statistics, mathematics, (traffic) modeling and computer science to integrate AI (artificial intelligence), machine learning, BIG data-based simulation methods etc. into mobility research
- Administrative activities in research and teaching
Teaching:
- Collaboration or independent teaching in the area of “integrated environment-friendly transport planning” and “methods for computer-assisted transport modelling and transport planning” for bachelor, master and PhD courses in civil and environmental engineering.
- high-level engagement in research-oriented academic teaching
Qualification Requirements:
- University Master and Doctoral degree or equivalent and proficiency in English
- Proven expertise in mathematical methods for the simulation and modeling of traffic systems and in computer science (artificial intelligence, machine learning, BigData etc.) are necessary, experience in applications in traffic planning are requested
- Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
- Experience in designing and participating in research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups, willingness to acquire third-party funding
- Capability for cooperation with other research groups at TU Wien as well as with national and international research partners
- Scientific activity outside TU Wien, preferentially outside Austria
- Practical experiences in the area of environment-friendly transport planning as well as experiences in interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary cooperation with other disciplines in technical, natural or social sciences will be advantageous.

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 3.945,90 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment is as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 4.666,30 (14 x per year).
