The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences invites applications for the position of a
Junior Professor (W1 with Tenure Track) of Physiology of Yield Stability
at the Institute of Crop Sciences to be filled in the winter semester 2017/2018.
The successful candidate will teach physiology of yield stability of crops and the application of pertinent molecular
methodologies in breeding and agronomy in the study programs of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the
Bachelor and Master level both in German and in English. At the beginning, the teaching load will comprise four
contact hours per week and will increase to six contact hours per week after successful interim evaluation.
The research focus should be on modern molecular tools in the breeding of crops and their relevance for cultivation.
We are looking for a candidate who combines physiological and -omics-based high-throughput and molecular
genetic techniques such as genome editing technology, and who will advance their use in crop research.
The molecular and physiological basis of yield stability should be investigated on the basis of system-oriented or
hypothesis-driven research - preferably on crops and breeding material -, e.g. under abiotic or biotic stresses.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Regional Research Alliance „Yield Stability in Dynamic
Environments“, which is a network of plant researchers at the University of Hohenheim, the University of Tübingen
and the MPI of Developmental Biology Tübingen. Cooperation with other groups as well with the interdisciplinary
research centers of the University of Hohenheim is envisioned. In addition to laboratory experiments and
green house trials, the Experimental Station of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Hohenheim
makes it possible to carry out extensive field trials.
The requirements for an appointment are a completed university degree, pedagogical suitability and a doctorate
of outstanding quality.
The appointment will be a temporary civil service position for four years. After a positive interim evaluation, the
employment relationship will be extended for another two years. After six years, the applicant may be appointed
to a W3-position if the requirements described in the University’s quality assurance guidelines are met. The
appointment to a W3-position may be done without any additional call for applications and through a simplified
With equal qualifications, preference will be given to candidates with disabilities.
The University of Hohenheim seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching, and strongly
encourages female scientists to apply.
Please attach the following documents to your application: a statement of your future research interests, a
curriculum vitae, a documentation of academic achievements (copies), a list of publications, a list of third-party
funded projects, a teaching record, information on teaching evaluations as well as three key publications.
