The University Hospital of the Goethe University (GU), Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is looking for a
Postdoc (f/m) in Computational Neuroimaging
to join the research group of Prof. Christine Ecker in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Research projects will focus on developing novel approaches to image analysis and machine learning methods for the automatic analysis of multi-modal human MRI data (e.g. sMRI, DTI and rsfMRI data), primarily with the aim to extract imaging biomarkers that can be leveraged to both understand or identify complex neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and to provide a methodological framework for targeting and monitoring therapy. Prof. Ecker joined the GU as Heisenberg Professor in 2015, and holds a visiting professorship at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King‘s College, London. Research projects within the group are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the EU.
We seek a postdoctoral candidate with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics with interest in image processing, and with solid programming skills in C/C++, MATLAB, R, and shell scripting. The ideal candidate would have knowledge in computational neuroimaging or biomedical engineering, and considerable expertise in methodological development of quantitative MRI analysis, e.g. registration, segmentation, geometric analysis of brain surfaces, DTI, and/or rsfMRI. Experience with big data analysis and machine learning is an asset. Knowledge of state-of-the-art data analyses techniques and neuroimaging software, including FreeSurfer, FSL, SPM is also appreciated. Highly motivated individuals with a strong publication track record are encouraged to apply.
Tasks and responsibilities:
Discuss, plan and conduct research in a stimulating environment combining basic research with clinical applications.
Develop novel analytical approaches for MRI data analysis
Apply these statistical models to large-scale population cohorts (clinical and non-clinical)
To engage in teaching, knowledge dissemination, and publication of results in international recognized scientific journals.
Integration into the computational imaging environment at GU, and interdisciplinary interactions with other institutes in Frankfurt a.M. and abroad (e.g. King‘s College, London).
Brain Imaging Centre with two 3T MRI scanners and expert team of MR physicists.
A rich set of existing high-quality multi-modal MR data and applied research questions through collaborations with national and international research consortia (e.g. www.eu-aims.eu).
The position is initially available for 2 years initially with the possibility of an extension, with negotiable starting state (preferably until May 2017). Employment, payment and social benefits are determined by the Public Sector Collective Agreement.
