The Division for Molecular Virology of Human Infectious Diseases at the University Hospital
Tübingen, Germany (Prof. Dr. Michael Schindler), invites candidates to apply for a vacancy
with the following project:
Postdoc/PhD Student in Molecular Virology
- to study intracellular trafficking and release of hepatitis c virus
- to functionally characterize and optimize a novel pan-flavivirus inhibitor.
We have open positions in both projects for PhD students or a Postdoc which are initially
funded for 36 months by the DFG and the BW Stiftung.
The project aiming to delineate intracellular transport and release of HCV involves advanced
super-resolution live cell fluorescence imaging in our BSL-3 facility. Therefore, experience
with live cell imaging and the according data handling would be an asset. Furthermore, we
have set up novel techniques to identify and characterize viral protein interactions.
Advantageous, but not mandatory, is a background in:
- HCV virological assays
- live cell imaging
- basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning)
The work on our novel pan-flavivirus inhibitor is a very interdisciplinary project embedded at
the border between molecular virology and structural biology/pharmaceutical chemistry. We
aim to optimize our primary hit by rationale-based SAR involving structural characterization,
in silico modelling and resistance screening. Advantageous is a background in:
- HCV virological assays
- Structural biology
- basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning)
This is an opportunity to work together with a vibrant team in a productive and stimulating
environment and to perform research on an exciting and highly relevant topic. We seek
highly motivated candidates with a strong dedication to science. If you would like to join us in
combating viral human diseases, please send your application as one PDF file (Letter of
motivation, CV, degrees and certificates, reference letters) preferentially by E-mail.
We offer remuneration in accordance with TV-L (collective wage agreement for the Public
Service of the German Federal States) in addition to all the customary benefits granted to
employees working in Public Services. Severely handicapped persons with equal
qualifications are given preferential consideration. The University of Tübingen is anxious to
increase its quota of female scientific staff, and therefore emphatically requests women to
apply for this position. The Administration of the University Hospital is responsible for all
employment matters. Personnel appointments will be made pursuant to the fundamental
stipulations of the legal statutes for universities in Germany. Interview expenses are not
covered.
