The
Department of Geography at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Bonn has an opening as of April 1, 2022 for the position of
Professor of Geography (W2 professorship)
with a specialization in Development Geography and Risk Research
The professorship is advertised in the field of development geography and geographic risk research in the context of global change. Candidates must be internationally recognized. In addition to theoretical and conceptual expertise, the position requires contributions to applied research.
Candidates must have teaching experience in all areas of human geography. The position entails responsibilities in all of the degree programs offered by the Geographical Institute. It requires teaching in both German and English. This applies in particular to the English-language international Master’s program “Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security” that is offered jointly by the University of Bonn and the Institute for Environment and Human Security at the United Nations University (UNU), also located in Bonn. The successful candidate will be responsible for the core content of this degree program and play a leading role in its organization. Candidates are expected to have excellent didactical competencies and a passion for teaching. The position requires involvement at all levels of academic self-administration.
Cooperation within the Institute, within the geoscientific network of the Aachen-Bonn-Cologne/Jülich research area (Geoverbund ABC/J) and within the University’s Transdisciplinary Research Areas (particularly Innovation and Technology for Sustainable Futures) are of special importance. Other requirements include experience in the acquisition and implementation of third party-funded projects and participation in international interdisciplinary networks that are active in the fields of risk management and sustainable development.
A post-doctoral habilitation or equivalent academic qualification is a prerequisite for the appointment to a W2 professorship, among other requirements per § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW).
